Dear Coalition for a DSP Living Wage:
Much in part to your great advocacy, I am thrilled to report that Governor Murphy’s proposed FY21 Budget includes NEW funding to raise wages for Direct Support Professionals! With the state facing unprecedented financial challenges due to the COVID-19 crisis, we were concerned that this critical funding may not have been included. However, the dedication of new funding to further invest in DSP wages is a testament to the essential work DSPs do to support individuals with I/DD not only during this pandemic but every single day! It is also a testament to the power of our collective voice!
The Governor’s proposed budget now heads to the Legislature for consideration where it needs to be finalized by September 30. During the coming weeks, we’ll be reaching out to ask that you contact your legislators to ensure the funding for DSP wages remains in the final FY2021 budget.
Thank you again for making your voice heard. We are grateful for your advocacy and grateful that Governor Murphy heard you loud and clear, especially during these challenging times.
Please stay safe and be well.
Sincerely,
Valerie Sellers
