Dear Coalition for a DSP Living Wage,
Much in part to your great advocacy, I am happy to report that Governor Murphy’s proposed FY22 Budget includes nearly $42 million to raise Direct Support Professional (DSP) wages. With New Jersey’s minimum wage set to rise every year through 2024 and many retailers already paying $15 per hour, it is critical DSP wages are competitive and reflect the responsibility, skill, and training required to do the job. This latest investment in DSP wages will help move us closer to that goal.
The Governor’s proposed budget now heads to the Legislature for consideration where it needs to be finalized by June 30. During the coming weeks, we’ll be reaching out to ask that you contact your legislators to ensure the funding for DSP wages remains in the final FY2022 budget.
